I have been a teacher for 22 years now, of which this is my sixteenth year in McDowell County. I have been at Anawalt Elementary School for the past 8 years now. I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Campbell University, a Masters degree in Curriculum and Technology Instruction from the University of Phoenix Online, an 18 hour Reading endorsement from Marshall University, and a 9 hour Teacher Leadership for Student Growth endorsement from Concord University.
As an interventionist, I work with small groups in the classroom, as well as, small groups that are pulled out of the classroom for extra support in the areas of the needs for reading and math. While working with these groups, I expect for each child to work hard and try to do their best, for them to respect the teacher, their classmates, and themselves, and to behave in an appropriate manner as to provide a safe learning environment.
To increase reading skills, by using implicit and explicit phonics strategies, with small group interventions.
To increase math skills, by differentiating and providing small group interventions.
I am looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year! Continue working with your children at home to support what we have in place here at school. Working together as a team, we can make a difference in each child's life! If you have any questions, or need any resources to work with your child at home, please don't hesitate to contact me.
