McDowell County Schools hosted College and Career Fair on Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Welch Armory, with over 30 higher education institutions and post-secondary organizations participating. Mount View and River View High School seniors enjoyed meeting various representatives, exploring their post-graduation options, and making future college and career connections.

McDowell County Schools had a Gold Medal winner at the Skills USA State Competition held recently in Kingwood. Kevin was awarded the Gold Medal in Information Technology Services and will be moving on to the National Competition in June. Kevin is a student at River View High School and the Career and Technology Center.
Britney Blevins, a Careers in Education student, at the CTC presented her Autism project in recognition of National Autism Month to the McDowell County Board of Education on April 4, 2016. She is pictured with her Careers in Education teacher, Mrs. Sandra Murensky.
Congratulations to Madison Dunford from Southside K-8 School and Adam Ynancky from Iaeger Elementary School. Madison is the 2016 Spelling Bee champion and Adam is the runner-up. Pictured with both students is Board President David Wllliams and Board Member, Mike Callaway.

The first day of school for 1-12 students is August 18, 2016.
The first day for kindergarten will be August 19th. Oriention for kindergarten will be August 18th.
Orientation for Pre-K students, parents, and families will be held at each Pre-K site beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, August 19.
The first day of school for all Pre-K students is August 22, 2016.
