About Me
Before beginning my teaching career at the CTC in August 2000 I was employed in the restaurant industry for 17 1/2 years beginning as a crew member and working my way up to management. I received my Bachelor degree from Bluefield State College.
Classroom Management
Safety is a high priority in the ProStart classroom, kitchen and greenhouse. Rules and regulations are extensively discussed as well as a copy being placed in the student's binder and conveniently posted. First year students spend several weeks of instruction in food safety and personal safety where they must achieve a score of 100% on safety exams before being allowed to prepare any food. Second year students are re-taught safety and required to receive a score of 100% as well.
FYS Goals

Some program goals are to partner with local farmers to further educate myself and the students in produce (hydroponic and soil) growth. Have the Mcdowell County Health inspector to come to the school to present a Food Service Worker Class and distribute Food Service Worker's Permits to the students. Students will also be given the opportunity to receive WV Welcome certification and the nationally recognized ServeSafe Food Handlers Card.
