  • COVID-19 Update

Is COVID-19 ACTIVE IN West Virginia?
Yes. Check back often, as we will continue to update this bulletin as needed. The CDC keeps current a map tracking confirmed COVID-19 cases in the U.S. on the CDC website.
What is McDowell County Schools doing to prepare for possible COVID-19 cases?
According to guidance given by the CDC, in communities like ours where COVID-19 is NOT active, the most important thing for school districts to do now is plan and prepare.
McDowell County Schools has been actively involved in pandemic preparedness planning with the McDowell County Health Department and local emergency response planners and agencies since 2001. A portion of the district-wide Emergency Operations Plan is dedicated to a comprehensive plan for responding to emergency situations. For more information regarding COVID-19 please contact the McDowell County Health Department at (304)448-2174.
Please continue to educate your children about the importance of proper hand washing and preventing the spread of germs by coughing/sneezing into tissues or the inside bend of their arm. Staff members are working to educate everyone on these important universal strategies as well.
