October 1, 2024 Fall River Elementary School will be closed on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 due to a power outage at the school. All other MCS schools will be open on regular schedule for Tuesday Oct 1, 2024.

Principal Frazier McGuire would like to share with the community that the Homecoming game has been rescheduled to Monday at 6:00PM. The crowning ceremony will take place at 4:00PM. The parade will take place Saturday at 11:00AM.

**⚠️ Important Announcement: High School Football Games Canceled Tonight ⚠️** After careful consideration and consultation with McDowell County emergency officials, including guidance from 911 to stay home and not travel, we have made the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s high school football game for both MV and RV. The safety of our students, staff, and community is our top priority, and with the current conditions, we believe this is the best course of action. Sept 27, 2024 Due to forecasted heavy rainfall and strong winds on top of already saturated grounds with rising water levels, McDowell County Schools will be CLOSED on Friday, September 27, 2024. *All 240 day employees report on Three Hour Delay.

The Secondary Administration Teams from both MV and RV would like to remind all CTC students that ONLY evening students will attend CTC on Three Hour Delays.

Sept 26 Bus 105 K Horn will make his run this evening. We were able to get the evening run covered. Thanks!

September 26, 2024 Bus 120 Randy Brewster (Bishop area) was not able to get students this morning as a tree was blocking the roadway. He will run this evening if parents can bring students to school. RV and SSK8

**Message from Mr Aaron Lester, Attendance Director Due to the increased unsubstantiated threats made to our schools last week, McDowell County Schools will be accepting written parent excuses for any student absences that occurred during this time. This policy applies to absences from last week only (9-9-24 to 9-13-24). Please ensure that all written excuses are submitted to your child's school as soon as possible for proper documentation. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students. Subject: Important Update Regarding Recent Social Media Concerns Dear McDowell County Schools Families, We are aware of recent concerns circulating on social media regarding a potential threat involving one of our schools as well as schools in surrounding counties. Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our TOP priority. We take these matters seriously and are actively working with local law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the situation daily. At this time, NO credible threat has been identified, but we will continue to monitor and collaborate closely with authorities. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at our schools in the coming days. Also please know, our school principals and staff will continue to ensure safety protocols are followed each and every day. We constantly monitor and improve school safety plans through strengthening our school safety teams. Just this week we are completing safety walkthroughs with an officer assigned by WV Governor’s School Safety Task Force to learn ways in which we can improve protocols. We also want to remind families of the importance of vigilance. If your child or anyone in our community sees or hears something concerning, we ask that they say something immediately. Open communication is vital in ensuring the safety of everyone. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We cannot do this alone.
