High School Equivalency

As of January 1, 2024, GED is the high school equivalency test (HSE) adopted by the WV Department of Education.

HiSET was the high school equivalency test (HSE) adopted by the WV Department of Education and testing began in April 2022 and ended December 31, 2023. Anyone who took the HiSET test but was unable to complete it are eligible to take the parts they need through GED and have their passing HiSET and/or TASC scores combined with their GED scores for their HSE diploma through Diploma Sender.

HSE testing is still offered free to test takers in West Virginia. Test takers must go to the Adult Education Center at 1 Stadium Drive in Welch to be eligible for testing. Chasity Kennedy is the instructor. Ms. Kennedy's phone number is 304-436-6580. You must call to let her know when you plan to go to the center and for further information about how to get started. All test takers must take and pass the GED Ready test at the Adult Education center prior to registering for the GED test. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you do so at the Adult Education Center with Mrs. Kennedy.  If your ID and GED account information do not match EXACTLY – you will not be allowed to test. You are required to bring your ID with you the day of testing.

All test takers will need to set up an account with Diploma Sender (at DiplomaSender.com or 1-855-313-5799. Have your HiSET or GED ID# available). Only one account should be created in Diploma Sender per person.

Examiners are Tanya Cook (304-549-8100) and Alvin Cline.
