Per the approval of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, schools will begin releasing from lockdown status when campuses are cleared by law enforcement.
We are working closely with law enforcement and will update families as each school is cleared and released.
The following schools lockdowns are lifted and instruction will proceed as normal.

📢 Calendar Update – 5 Day Waiver Approved
The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) has approved our 5 Day Calendar Waiver.
This means students will now finish the school year on the original last day, June 8, with graduation ceremonies scheduled for June 4.
Important reminders:
March 20 is now an instructional day for students.
Spring Break for students will be April 6–10, 2026.
Staff will have a Professional Learning Day on Friday, April 10.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to provide the best learning opportunities for our students.

🚨 Staff Training in Progress Today at MVHS & RVHS 🚨
Today, all MCS staff at MVHS and RVHS are participating in ALICE Active Threat Training as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and community.
Please be advised that this is only a training exercise. There is no active threat at either building.
You may notice an increased staff presence or hear discussion related to safety procedures throughout the day as part of this important professional development.
