📢 Transportation Update for Families
For the safety of all students, we will no longer be able to accept bus notes requesting that children ride home with friends or to locations other than their home address. Students will only be permitted to ride the bus to and from their assigned stop. We understand this may be an adjustment for some families, but this change is necessary to ensure accurate records, meet seating requirements, consistent routes, and the safety of every child on board. *We will approve shared custody notes. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to keep our transportation system safe and reliable. 🚌💛

💛🖤🤍 Honoring Driver Mike Ward 💛🖤🤍 Tomorrow, we invite all families and students to join us in honoring the memory of Mike Ward, a beloved and long-time bus driver in our transportation fleet. Mike dedicated many years to safely getting students to and from school, always with care. To celebrate his life and the impact he had on our community, we ask everyone wear yellow, black, and white tomorrow. Let’s come together in unity and gratitude to remember the difference he made in so many lives. Thank you for helping us honor his legacy. 🚌

Dear Families and Community Members,

Earlier today, our RV/SRMS school campus was evacuated following a wall graffiti bomb threat. We want to assure you that emergency officials have now CLEARED the campus and confirmed that it is safe.

While we are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and first responders, it is important to recognize the seriousness of this situation. Threats of any kind—whether written, spoken, or acted upon—are NEVER a joke. They disrupt learning, create fear, and will carry very serious consequences.

We strongly encourage all parents to speak with your children about the severity of making threats and the lasting impact such actions have on our entire community.

Please know school officials are working closely with law enforcement to determine the individual responsible. When identified, that person will be held fully accountable.

The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we thank you for your partnership and support in reinforcing this message at home.

We would like to send our sincere appreciation to families, staff, and students for your cooperation and assistance following safety protocols. Thank you as well to our local emergency officials for keeping us all safe.

Dear Families, Over the past few years, school supplies for our students have been generously funded through COVID-19 stimulus dollars. These funds have now expired, and we want to ensure you’re aware of what that means going forward. In McDowell; schools DO NOT issue formal supply lists as you will see in other states/areas as we follow WV code. Instead, teachers will share at Open House events em ‼️ suggested items that families may choose to purchase, if they are able. These suggestions are meant to support your child’s learning, but they are not mandatory. Most schools will still have ample suppliess left over from last year. Please remember that our Communities In Schools (CIS) facilitators are always here to support your family. If your child needs school supplies or anything else to help them thrive, do not hesitate to reach out. We’re committed to making sure every student is prepared and ready to succeed. Thank you for being a valued part of our school community!

Dear Families,
We want to keep you informed that McDowell County Schools will be following the guidance and interpretation provided by the West Virginia Department of Education and the State Superintendent of Schools regarding required student vaccinations.
To support our families and ensure every child is ready for the upcoming school year, we want to remind you that vaccine clinics are available throughout the community, including at the McDowell County Health Department.
Our next school-based clinic will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at Mount View High School. This is a great opportunity to get your child up to date with required immunizations in a convenient setting.
Thank you for helping us keep our students healthy, safe, and ready to learn!
Warm regards,
McDowell County Schools
