**Message from Mr Aaron Lester, Attendance Director
Due to the increased unsubstantiated threats made to our schools last week, McDowell County Schools will be accepting written parent excuses for any student absences that occurred during this time. This policy applies to absences from last week only (9-9-24 to 9-13-24).
Please ensure that all written excuses are submitted to your child's school as soon as possible for proper documentation.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students. We understand that last week was very upsetting for families and we want you to know we are all working together and value you.

Subject: Important Update Regarding Recent Social Media Concerns
Dear McDowell County Schools Families,
We are aware of recent concerns circulating on social media regarding a potential threat involving one of our schools as well as schools in surrounding counties.
Please know that the safety of our students and staff is our TOP priority. We take these matters seriously and are actively working with local law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the situation daily.
At this time, NO credible threat has been identified, but we will continue to monitor and collaborate closely with authorities. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at our schools in the coming days.
Also please know, our school principals and staff will continue to ensure safety protocols are followed each and every day. We constantly monitor and improve school safety plans through strengthening our school safety teams. Just this week we are completing safety walkthroughs with an officer assigned by WV Governor’s School Safety Task Force to learn ways in which we can improve protocols.
We also want to remind families of the importance of vigilance. If your child or anyone in our community sees or hears something concerning, we ask that they say something immediately. Open communication is vital in ensuring the safety of everyone.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We cannot do this alone. We depend heavily on you as partners in education and safety. We will provide updates as necessary.

Sessions for the Opening CE Schedule are now live in MLP. All staff members must register for each session that they are to attend before the close of business day tomorrow. Sign in sheets will be printed tomorrow. Please use the schedule from your principal or supervisor to assist with this process.
MCS Math Academy III will be held next week at MVHS each day Monday thru Friday starting promptly at 8:30AM. There are still seats if you want to register. Email afragile@k12.wv.us
Please remember we will not have Summer Camp/ Credit Recovery/ Career Tech Exploration tomorrow on Friday, July 12, 2024 to allow MCS staff to attend a PBIS positive behavior training.

Tomorrow is the BIG day! Roll & Read for any child birth to age 5 at the MV Football Field starting at 10:00AM. Bring a set of WHEELS and let your child roll table to table gathering FREE BOOKS, snacks, learning toys for home and much more! Did we mention inflatables? Wear your TYE DYE shirts! It's going to be GROOVY!

Bus 161 (D. Parkhurst) will be picking up students approximately 1 hour late this morning due to a mechanical problem.
The water line break at Bradshaw has been corrected. There WILL be school on normal schedule for BES, SRMS, and RVHS on Thursday. Thanks!

Unfortunately the water line break at BES has now interrupted water at the RV and SRMS campus. We will need to release students from RV and SRMS starting at 1:30PM. Please call the school(s) if you need to make arrangements.
